Welcome on the Climate Services for Increased Resilience in the Sahel Website
There is a serious recognition of adverse and damaging impacts of climate change in the Sahel. A region well known as very much vulnerable to climate impacts. The CSIRS project develops capacity of Regional Climate Centre at ACMAD and National Meteorological Services of Niger, Burkina Faso and Senegal,, improves climate services and enhance international cooperation for climate knowledge and technology exchanges  in the Sahel.
CSIRS enhances regional and national capacity for climate services generation and use, provides climate analysis and prediction information, improves uptake and use of climate information through development and implementation of a communication strategy. It supports international cooperation for knowledge sharing and capacity development. CSIRS utilizes a range of tools for training, production of climate information, communication, creation and dissemination of climate services.
Users of ACMAD’s regional products are National Meteorological Services of Niger, Burkina Faso and Senegal and their regional and national partners. Final Beneficiaries are population living or active in locations and sectors vulnerable to climate related disasters, food insecurity, epidemic diseases and water scarcity.
CSIRS introduces key innovations:
First, harmonized structure will be used, to ensure that technical notes for climate forecasts discussions and briefings are relevant for NMHSs, reports and statements are tailored to the needs of policy, decision makers and practioners in climate sensitive sectors of the Sahel economy;
Second, climate, disasters, food security, water and epidemiological datasets are integrated in a database and available through a geo server. In so doing, climate impact analysis and assessments with response measures for each sector will be undertaken and integrated in bulletins, reports and statements for policy and decision makers.
CSIRS integrates and synthesizes climate information suitable to ensure food security, water management and Meningitis surveillance and control in the Sahel.
