Those events could be\u00a0based within a number of West African Hubs, involving African Universities\/ Research Institutes with African Services\/Authorities\/Funders and potentially also WASCAL Competence Centre and Graduate Schools as locations.<\/p><p>The overall goals are to:<\/p><ul><li>strengthen climate resilience in Africa in order to raise awareness about climate knowledge, identify key services for adaptation to climate change and disaster risk reduction;<\/li><li>examine potential areas for cooperation in research on climate risk management, resilience and adaptation in West Africa and thus defragment the programme landscape in favour of common goals and common impact of funding;<\/li><li>describe pathways and priorities for research, innovation and capacity development in the area of Climate Services for Risk Reduction that contribute to the new Innovation Agenda between African Union and European Union;<\/li><li>identify actionable and complementary steps to boost KIC via trilateral or multilateral joint calls or actions (South-South and South-North).<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-188c183 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"188c183\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. The 1st Webinar objectives<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ac5b66d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ac5b66d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This first webinar aims to focus on,\u00a0<strong>improvement of early warning system and adaptation measures for disaster risk reduction in the West African region and will be held at WASCAL, in the University of Lom\u00e9, Lom\u00e9, TOGO on September, 28, 2023.<\/strong>\u00a0 It will cover the following topics:<\/p><ul><li>Increase knowledge of the hazard;<\/li><li>Better forecasting it;<\/li><li>Communicate the forecast;<\/li><li>Develop adaptation and mitigation measures;<\/li><li>Post-evaluate any measure in terms of socio-economic value.\u00a0<\/li><li>The &#8220;value chain&#8221; of early warning systems.\u00a0<\/li><li>Predictability of rainfall and temperature from weather forecasts to S2S time scales.\u00a0<\/li><li>Identify needs, what science can bring and migrate from science to policy advice.<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>ACMAD will participate in discussion in Parallel Session 1<\/strong><\/p><p><strong>Topics: Increase knowledge of the hazard; Better forecasting it; Communicate the forecast; Predictability of rainfall and temperature from weather forecasts to S2S time scales.
