About Forum

The African Centre of Meteorological Application for Development will actively participate in the 2024 ClimSA Forum under the theme “Improving Climate Services for Sustainable Adaptation Actions: Engagement with End-Users and Policymakers”.

 The Forum will be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica, from June 24 to June 27, 2024. This event is organized under the 11th European Development Fund (EDF) Intra-ACP Climate Services and related Applications Programme (ClimSA). The forum is a collaborative effort involving the Organisation of African Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Government of Jamaica, the Caribbean Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), the African Union Commission (AUC), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the European Commission, and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

OBJECTIVES :

The main objective of the forum is to learn from users’ feedback to improve the utility and benefits of climate service applications, thereby enhancing regional resilience in OACPS countries vulnerable to climate change. Specific objectives include:

  1. Reviewing tools and products/services generated by Regional Climate Centres (RCCs).
  2. Assessing users’ adaptation measures derived from climate services.
  3. Analyzing feedback on the usefulness of climate services.
  4. Exchanging best practices and lessons learned across regions.
  5. Showcasing successful climate services mainstreaming for priority sectors and promoting a science-policy interface under the ClimSA programme.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES :

  1. Tailored climate services aligned with science-based knowledge.
  2. Identification of best adaptive practices for climate services uptake.
  3. Improved application of climate services in climate-sensitive sectors.
  4. Establishment of new collaborations and partnerships for expertise exchange.
  5. Increased awareness and understanding of climate mainstreaming modalities among end-users and policymakers.

ACMAD will contribute through presentations on project progress at Continental level, on climate services for health, climate services for humanitarian actors and feedback and a Compilation of tailored products.
