Sudanese Forecaster on Training at ACMAD demonstrating the wind circulation and its role in driving rain systems
On this International Day of Women and Girls in Science, ACMAD proudly celebrates the remarkable contributions of women Scientists, Meteorologists, and Innovators driving advancements in Climate Action across Africa. We advance gender equality and prioritize women’s /girl’s inclusion key in all our activities.
Women are at the forefront of climate solutions, from groundbreaking research in clean energy technologies to the development of early warning and climate Information Systems that protect vulnerable communities. Their efforts are crucial in strengthening Africa’s resilience to climate variability and advancing a sustainable future for generations to come.
Beyond laboratories and research centers, women in rural communities — often among the most vulnerable to climate change — are powerful agents of change. Despite facing climate-induced challenges, they are key contributors to climate action through innovative practices such as recycling materials to create useful products, promoting agroecological techniques, and acting as ambassadors of climate action by using clean energy solutions like solar cooking and biogas systems. Their local knowledge and resilience are invaluable assets in building community-driven solutions to climate challenges.
At ACMAD, we recognize and celebrate these contributions while reaffirming our commitment to empowering women and girls through mentorship, and training in climate services. By amplifying their voices and investing in their potential, we can foster a more inclusive, sustainable, and climate-resilient continent.
On this special day, we salute the women and girls in Meteorology whose scientific pursuits and innovative spirit are shaping Africa’s climate future. Let us continue to inspire the next generation to break barriers, challenge norms, and lead transformative change in science and climate action.
Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science!
